Not to be confused with typical “flame cutting” equipment, Cogmatic Flame Machining Technology achieves accuracy by precisely controlling both the speed and the path of a high-pressure oxy-propane cutting system. Our Flame Machining Technology features a proprietary, thermally-controlled, dual-axis drive system. This innovative cutting technology produces straight-faced gears and sprockets with a typical 125 micro finish, without the need for finish polishing. The precise accuracy of this process maintains tooth form and spacing down to five to ten-thousandths of an inch (.005″ to .010″) and without tolerance stack-up.

Because Flame Machining by Cogmatic results in a finished surface in a single pass, the amount of labor and equipment time needed to complete a ring gear or sprocket is reduced significantly, compared to traditional multi-pass CNC -based machining. The result is cost savings for our customers!

Repeatability

Our flame machining process ensures that the first tooth profile will be cut precisely the same as the last tooth profile – no gouges, tears, slags or lumps to blemish the surface. And without getting a fat or skinny tooth from tolerance stack-up.

Longevity

Because our Cogmatic process delivers smooth finishes and edges, your flame-machined parts will engage accurately with your other drive components. Having a precise mesh that eliminates wear to other power transmission components means that flame-machined parts actually increase the longevity of your entire drive system.

Affordability

It all comes down to price, speed, and accuracy. We’ll work with you to supply cost-effective, accurate components – without long production delays. The advantage of flame machining is part quality similar to cold machining at the price and lead time of flame cutting.
